Cons: Slightly more expensive, it's composite and delamination might be an issue in the future, aluminum barrel nut. My observations so far. Only time will tell with the smoke composites handguard in relation to possible delamination. Based on reviews they can take a beating. Both companies stand behind their products. Hopefully this helps out.

Apr 28, 2015 · The only way I could see to beat the weight of a Smoke Composites’ stock would be to have a carbon fiber carbine/rifle length buffer tube without any butt stock attachment at all. The idea is somewhat similar to what is done for AR ‘pistol’ builds, but with a recoil system adequate for a full size. Currently have the light/laser mounted on the bottom rail until the carbon fiber tube comes in. With the factory handguard the x400 takes up 3/4 of the 510c window when mounted on top. You can get a carbon fiber handguard which will not heat up anywhere near as quickly, Troy, Smoke Composites, and many other companies make nice ones. You can also use a Manta Tac Wrap, KE SHTF+ Wrap, or a Camo Form Wrap on any handguard which will shield you from the heat. However they also add the most weight.
